The simple things
I know that it is the small simple things that change everything.
I know that it is the small simple things that change everything.
It’s the getting up earlier that means the day goes better.
It’s the drinking more water than wine.
It’s the asking for forgiveness when you want to give in.
It’s the being thankful when your heart is on empty.
It’s praying instead of staying angry or confused.
It’s the little moments of choices we make that change worlds forever.
It’s the first time we decide to stop and notice someone who has been there all along.
It’s the hours we spend navigating when someone is lost.
It’s the moving over and making room for a stranger when life’s already crowded.
It’s talking to the recent widow on the driveway whilst the groceries packed in the trunk begin to thaw.
It’s squeezing in another place at the table and stretching the food for one more when we are wrapped up our families’ celebrations.
It’s just a little effort that goes a long way.
We never know when the cruise liner first begins to turn; we can’t see it.
Or when the train starts to move out of the station, but we know when it’s on its way.
We cannot remember our first breaths or our first dreams.
We cannot always remember what someone said, but we will remember their face.
We cannot remember when we first started to think of others and not ourselves.
I know I need to keep making small simple changes in my life so I can make a large, significant difference in someone else’s.

Sally, on a day when everything feels mountainous — this really blessed me. Thank you.
