I have recently started listening to the radio again

I used to like silence, so despite my love of people and noise, if I were given the house to myself I would wander from room to room in silence enjoying the space, pushing the quiet onto all of the walls and into the closets.

Mike would go away and I would not know how to use the television remote and I definitely couldn’t play a DVD

But recently I have rediscovered that I like radio . I used to love the radio, I remember my parents buying me my first as a really cool birthday present when I was about 10years old .

It sat by my bed and after my lights were out I could listen for hours, I loved the songs and the chat and the weather reports but most of all I loved the fact that my father also listened to the radio in his car when he was travelling late into the night. So on those evenings I would feel close to my Father knowing he was listening too and we would laugh about the presenters over tea and toast in the mornings. The radio became our common language. This conversation with my Father lasted until he died

When Mike had to travel away when our son Samuel was young ,he would read portions of the book they were reading together over the phone from whatever airport or car or country he found himself in. and Sam would fall asleep listening to his Fathers Voice This was their common moment and a memory that will last forever from Father to Son.

So I have recently started listening to the radio again, this time its streamed via my computer in a strong English accent playing tunes that scatter memories around my breakfast table like spilt cereal tumbling out of the box, and I can hear again my Fathers voice.
