Dancing in the Kitchen!

Last week I was having supper in one of my friends houses, it’s a great beach house that they are renting for the winter on Pawley’s Island. There were probably 65 people at the party and as usual everyone was squashing into the kitchen. Ray Charles was playing on the iPod so I started to dance in this sweet space somewhere between the lasagna, the white wine and the sink simply because I love dancing in the Kitchen!!!

A few friends joined in and it was a memory moment. I love dancing in the kitchen;
I grew up in a northern suburb of England with my parents spontaneously and occasionally embarrassingly dancing in the kitchen. Sometimes I would join in and I would spin around whilst standing on my Fathers feet.

I met my husband when I was still dancing in the kitchen with my Dad, he then took my hand, gave it to Mike and we now dance in the kitchen. We have danced in kitchens that have been so small we could barely move. We have waltzed around kitchens that have had baby swings and puppy beds in them, we have danced with children grabbing at our knees an laughing at us, and we have danced in kitchens that have granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances with purple desert mountains we can see from the windows.

We now have 3 children so when the first one, Rebecca asked us what was the secret behind a happy marriage I immediately answered, “dancing in the kitchen”

She took dancing lessons with Phil before they got married and they danced a very elegant and beautiful Rumba in our kitchen on their wedding day. That was a memory moment.

Maybe my only gift to my children, will be “dancing in the kitchen” who knows. But it probably reflects my personality well, it is both spontaneous, practical and reminds me of my Fathers love.

This is why I have decided to call this new blogging adventure
“Dancing in the Kitchen…”

I want it to be fun, practical and a constant reminder of a “Fathers Love”
