As you’ve probably picked up…it’s all about camp this week at 2013. Not surprisingly…some of the people around the office have taken it a bit more literally than others and camp costumes may-or-may-not be circulating this week.

If you’ve ever met our team…this should come as no suprise.

On Monday, we released the post “Why Camp Matters.“
On Wednesday, we looked at “Why we do camp differently.“

And today…well today, we’re ready to release the theme for this year’s Wayfarer Camp.

What would you have if everything in your life was taken away? We live in a fast-paced, high-speed, fleeting world where so many of us place our security and our trust in the hands of things that won’t last. Wealth, personal appearance, fickle relationships, status…these are just some of the unsustainable elements of the world that we see every day. It leads us to wonder what is true and sustainable? What will remain?

This is the question that teenagers are asking even when they don’t know they are asking it.

We believe the answer is found in a letter the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians almost 2,000 years ago. In chapter 13, verse 13 of 1 Corinthians, Paul wrote, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” (New International Version). Paul knew, just like we can see, that these three things were at the beginning. There was love in the relationship between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Hope existed; it was the possibility of something coming from nothing. The Word was spoken to create within the chaos; this was an action of faith.

Paul also knew that love, hope, and faith are the only things that are sustainable here and now. In the midst of a culture where so many things come and go, everything secure in our life comes from love, hope, and faith. There is a relationship (love), a possibility (hope), and an action or realization of that hope (faith). We see brokenness in our world when one or more of these is forgotten, fractured, or forsaken. We know that these three things, above all else, hold the world in balance. When we look to find security, we look toward God. He is relational, He is creative, He speaks and acts in our lives. It is through Him that love, hope, and faith are found in the world. They aren’t just “good things” to focus on; they emanate from God Himself. In the end, the same will be true. Nothing in our world will remain except these three.

What does it look like to anchor our lives in love, hope, and faith, and how will that make a difference in our lives? At Wayfarer Camp this year, we will explore these questions in exciting and interactive ways. We want you to journey with us this summer and discover what it means to live in these 3 realities that Paul wrote about in chapter 13.
